The ExLENT program is designed to enhance the CITRIS' capacity in teaching and research to educate and train highly qualified STEM students, preparing them to be leaders in technology innovation at the state, regional, and national levels. Our primary objective is to strengthen the pipeline of highly skilled professionals by expanding K-16 (K-12 plus college) training activities in semiconductor, information, and data (SID) science and technologies. These areas include applications in wireless networking, autonomous driving, personalized healthcare, smart agriculture, and societal infrastructure such as water, electric grid, and transportation systems.
Program Goals
- Expand K-16 Training: Focused on SID science and technologies to prepare students for future careers in high-tech fields.
- Develop Opportunities: Create learning, research, and internships for K-12 students (Junior ExLENT Fellows) and college students (ExLENT Fellows).
- Early Engagement: Address the pipeline problem by engaging students from middle school onwards.
- Industry and Academia Interaction: Facilitate interactions between students and experts through summer camps and workshops.
- Diversity Focus: Specifically target traditionally under-represented groups and geographical areas.
Program Activities
- Summer Camps and Workshops: Events held at university campuses and K-12 school premises to promote SID technologies.
- Teaching and Mentorship: Provide innovative teaching, strong mentorship, and financial support.
- Career Opportunities: Offer work experience in university labs and partner tech companies.
Commitment to Diversity
We aim to provide equal opportunities for all students, ensuring diverse backgrounds have access to resources and support needed for success in STEM careers.
