Overview
The "Broad Engagement for Students and Teachers to Advance and Reinforce Science” (BE-STARSE) initiative is our dynamic community engagement strategy, designed to connect K-12 and undergraduate students, along with their teachers, directly with university faculty, research scientists, industry STEM professionals, National Lab experts, and retired educators. The core goal of BE-STARSE is to drive workforce innovation and promote inclusivity in key areas highlighted by the CHIPS and Science Act.
BE-STARSE uniquely introduces participants to semiconductor microelectronics early on, even before they encounter foundational concepts typically taught in later academic years. This approach allows participants to delve into the semiconductor-relevant aspects of science, providing a glimpse into the formalism and physical intuition behind this critical technology. Through intensive interactions with experienced researchers, host mentors, and faculty, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the big picture in semiconductor technology, fostering system-level thinking and a deep-rooted interest in the field.
